New in 2009: The Oak Brook Half-Marathon has received the Chicago Area Runners Association designation as a CARA BEST OF CHICAGOLAND RACE.

Races with this designation are considered the crème de la crème of running experiences. These races are required to meet the highest standards for quality, safety and comfort for participants in a road race. This race has agreed to adhere to and uphold CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines.

Other New Features for the 2009 Oak Brook Half-Marathon:
  • We welcome our new specialty running store sponsor - The Runner's Soul - formerly Dick Pond-Elmhurst. Be sure to visit them, and check out their line of Mizuno products.
  • Clydesdale Division:The Oak Brook Half-Marathon now includes a Clydesdale Division. If you plan to race in this Division, registration is now open.
  • Chrono-track ("D-tag") timing. In response to runner demand to pick up timing devices before race day, the Oak Brook Half-Marathon will use this disposable timing device in 2009.
  • Convenient and Ample Free Parking. Free parking will be available directly north of the Starting Line in the Ace Hardware and Crossings Office Center parkling lots. These lots lots are large enough to hold all Race Day Parking. No donations will be collected at the parking lots for our official Charity, Ronald McDonald House Charities ® of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. But those who wish to continue to support RMHC-CNI - are encouraged to do so through online donations via our registration page on SignMeUp.com. Opportunities to make cash donations will also be available after the Race.
  • We're reversing the course! We think you will enjoy the "change of scenery", and other benefits that this strategic change will offer.
  • The Long-sleeve Tech t's will be back. For those of you who didn't run the OBHM last year, this is the finest shirt given out at any running event in Chicagoland. However, in order to receive the premium-quality tech top, you need to register before July 15, 2009. Order sizes carefully, as there will be no exchanges. Sample shirts are available at The Runners Soul, Elmhurst, if you would like to try one on for size. Participants who register after July 15th will receive a standard technical running shirt.

The second annual Oak Brook Half-Marathon, Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009, will combine the premier amenities of a major distance event with abundant charm and hospitality of the Village of Oak Brook. Make this a stepping stone on the way to your fall marathon, or enjoy it as your late-summer distance race. Official Oak Brook Half-Marathon training programs are available through The Runners Soul, Elmhurst, to help you reach your goal.

This "runners' course" will feature a strategic combination of wide streets, soft crushed gravel paths, paved bike paths and scenic beauty which make this a "must-do" race experience. Others bonuses include:

  • Long sleeve sublimated tech shirts for all participants who register before July 15, 2009. This premium-quality shirt is sure to become your favorite running top. Runners who register after July 15, 2009 will receive a standard tech running top.
